Playa

One afternoon we headed into Playa Del Carmen for shopping and dinner. Our taxi dropped us off at the newly completed shopping mall close to the ferry docks, and Annee & Sherril took to doing what they do best-perusing every store for bargains. Donny and I were left to our own devices to sit and patiently wait or just wander looking at the sites.

The gals are accomplished shoppers, who leave no nook or cranny in a store unshopped. How they can spend so much time in one store we'll never know, but after two hours we had advanced no more than two blocks thru the main shopping area that runs about a mile. The narrow street has been blocked off for pedestrians only and since last year, the town has installed huge circular planters with benches , strategically spaced every 25 yds or so. These sitting areas provided excellent spots for Donny and me to sit and watch the passing shoppers.

Finally the gals decided to take a break and we settled into a table at one of the many open cafes to enjoy a cold Dos Equis, chat with the proprietor, and watch the passing masses winding their way thru the myriad street vendors.

By just about dark, the gals had worked up an appetite, so we slipped into the open air Blue Lobster, our favorite Playa restaurant, to enjoy a delicious grilled lobster along with enough cold libations to unwind us from a tough afternoon of shopping.

All too quickly, the weeks vacation came to an end. Our flight back to Denver left Cancun at 8 PM and by midnite we were thru customs and checked into Red Roof for the nite. Sunday we hit the trail home to Montrose, looking forward already to our next Mexico trip.
