Harley Visitors

Some of you may remember earlier articles about our Harley Davidson visitors from Richmond. John Montague and Will Hazell had been out twice before, trailing their Harleys out , then taking off on 2000+ mile bike rides all over the west. This year it looked like only Johnny would be coming, since Will was heading to Sturgis. The real good news was John was bringing his fren gal, Jean Skelton, from Va Techville, Blacksburg Va. As it turns out, I hadn't met Jean, but had known her dad as the Dean of Extension at Va. Tech from way back in the 60s.

On Friday, July the14rd, John and Jean pulled out of Richmond, trailing his Harley. By Sunday PM they had breezed 'cross country and rolled into The Hacienda, ready for a rest. Last time John & Will were here, we were in the Hacienda planning stages, and being retired custom builders, they looked our plans over with a critical eye, giving us some great ideas that we incorporated into our plans. Now Johnny wanted to see what the real thing looked like.

That night we all went out for a nice dinner, and next morning John was up early unloading his Hawg, getting ready for their 2300 mile trip around Colorado, Utah, and Arizona. By mid-morning they were packed and ready for Jean's first Harley trip. Looked like this was to be a relationship test, since that morning John told me he had full intentions of popping the question over in Arches National Monument.

Four days later he called and let us know she said "YES" to his proposal, so we'll have to wait for a wedding date. Knowing John, the wedding will probably be scheduled for the 50 yard line at half-time of one of the VT home games this fall. Sure hope I can be there!

Finally, on the 27th they rolled in absolutely whipped from 2200 miles of Harley riding. After a refresher cleanup, we all went out to dinner for their engagement party and sang Karaoke til the wee hours. By first light next morning, they were off as quiet as church mice, embarked on the long trip back to Richmond. You can bet John will be back next year, but he'll be accompanied by the new Ms. Montague.
