Fresh off his April 29 wedding to his lovely Sarah, Plum had planned a quick Colorado trip from Waynesboro to pick up a couple of elk heads. His plan was to fly out, visit and fish a couple days, then rent a mini van for the long 38 hr drive back home, hauling his trophy heads. I picked him up to our local airport by 6:30 on Wednesday the 17rd of May and whisked him out to the Hacienda, where Lil Annee had prepared a scrumptious dinner for her adopted son. Next Am we were off for a whirlwing day visiting my taxerdermist buddy Gerald for a special viewing of his trophy room. Then we got him licensed up for fishing. After lunch at the True Grit Cafe in Ridgeway, we spent the afternoon fishing the tailwater of Ridgway dam. The Uncompahgre was main. lt stained from snow melt downstream, but in the tailwater it was clear and cold with trout ready to take our lures. Jim has had two of his horses out here with Pat Smith for a year, so we had to go check on them, then pick up his car Friday. After loading him up with elk heads, he pulled out about 2 PM and pulled out headed east and got back to the Shenandoah by 10 AM Sunday. No telling when he'll show up again, but I'd bet it will be about hunting season fer sure! David [Dee] Laird
