While the future Montagues were on their round the west Harley ride, Young Robert flew in from Virginia for a week. Sure was good to see the young feller again! Annee & i met him at the airport and headed home. His last trip out was December while The Hacienda was still under construction, so he was anxious to see the finished product.
That night I got him into the Colorado swing by taking him to the Humps & Horns PBR bull riding out to the fairgrounds. He had recently seen his first live PBR event back in Richmond, and thoroughly enjoyed bull riding again.
Next AM I gave him lessons on the Polaris, then we slipped down to Walmart to pick up a fishing license. Sunday evening Annee had a family dinner set up with the Roses, the Syries, and Joel. They were all happy to see RD again and we partied into the evening.
Early monday RD and I took our Breakfast at Casa De Mejas, then went down to visit buddy Gerald and see his magnificent collection of taxidermied waterfowl. In the PM we went down to Pacochupuk to fish the clear tailwaters below Ridgway dam, but caught little. By 7 PM we were down to the End of the Road Ranch for a calendar shoot with some of the beautiful gals scheduled to be gracing the pages of the upcoming Rocky Mountain Dreams calendar. Our next article will be devoted entirely to the making of that calendar, so you sure don't want to miss that! Anyhoo, Robert got caught up in the shooting and pulled out his own lil camera to record the event.
Monday also saw another guest arrive. Prem, from over at the Crestone Ashram, showed up for a lil R&R. On Tuesday, Robert, Prem, and I took in a morning of fishing on the Uncompahgre and we all caught fish! Then we ended up fishing several spots during the week that were all productive.
Wednesday the Harley riders showed back up, so we all went to dinner then stayed out to SilverJacks for Karaoke. Robert got to sing there songs to a packed house of Colorado cowboys & gals.
Thursday RD and I got in lots of 4 wheel riding surveying the Ouray Ditch, then Friday did it all again to clean out diversion boxes. Thursday night was ream roping night at the County Fair, so we took that in and watched 99 teams get whittled to 30, then 15, then the short go of 10. Lo and behold a gal and her husband took top spot. Now RD wants to get a horse and go to team roping!
Saturday we put a lot of miles on the 4 wheelers riding BLM land behind us, and now Robert is convinced he needs an ATV in addition to a horse. Saturday night was rodeo night at the fairgrounds, so RD got to see his first live rodeo. 'Bout midway of the team roping it poured down rain, but nothing stops a rodeo, so we huddled under the bleachers until all was says and done, then we slipped and slud thru the mud to the car.
Sadly, the week flew by too quick-like, and Robert was off Sunday early headed back to Richmond. Now, who will I play with this week??? |
