Elk Hunting

Pretty quick after the VA visitors left, it was time to turn our attention to Elk Hunting!

Adopted sons Jim Plumhoff from San Antonio and Jeff Flint from Va were coming out for an archery elk hunt . The Yeaman's [father/ son Bob & Robbie] from Culpepper,Va. and Jared Cahill from deep in the heart of Texas had booked a rifle elk hunt thru Sundance Safaris, and it was time to get camps set up.

Plum's Elk

Plum and Jeff showed up for their bow hunt, so I dropped them of for their "on your own elk hunt" up by Pat's. Plum downed a great bull within a day or two, but Jeff shot up almost all his arrows before he finally connected. At the end of the week I picked them both up for our road trip to Lincoln, Nebraska to see VT beat the Huskers on great defensive plays. Two days on the road with these young fellers brought back memories of road trips back in the 60's!

On over in October Jared and the Yeaman's showed up for their hunt. We got their smokepoles sighted in on my range behind the house then I packed them all up to Pat's for a week-long hunt. They hunted hard and long days and Robbie got a nice 5x5 with a long 567 yd shot. Ole Jared hunted hard with a calendar gal as his guide, saw some nice elk, but hadn't brought his long range rifle. By the end of the week they were happy but bushed after 5 days on steep slopes.

Since then duck and goose season came in , but birds have been few and far between, so at this writing I have no spectacular pics. Those will surely come in the next posting. I suppose I can blame that all on Obama's election. YUK!!!!
