Robert Visits

At the end of July, my youngest, Robert flew in for a visit. The day after he arrived, the day long Olathe Corn Festival began at 9 AM with a huge Karaoke contest. Usually we dont even show up there until late in the afternoon because of the heat. But, since RD tries never to miss a Karaoke event, he and I were out early so he could sign up. He got in the first of 6 sections scheduled for the day and actually came in 4th. Unfortunately, only the top 2 got to move on to the evening finals before the crowd of 20,000+, so we headed home for a 4 wheeler ride. That afternoon we all headed back to enjoy unlimited sweet corn, and all the festivities that were capped off by a great concert by Clint Black.

As with any visitor, we try to cram a lot in a visit. RD and I tried fishing several times, but the Uncompaghre was still running high and stained from snow runoff and fishing wasnt too pretty good. So, much of our time was spent 4 wheeling out of the farm.

The Delta County Fair was in full swing the week Rd was here, and 4H ropers were scheduled one morning. Pat and Stephanie Smiths girls were scheduled to ride, so Rd and I drove over to Hotchkiss to cheer them on. Both Cass and Trista rode in the barrel race and Trista competed in the breakaway roping. Unfortunately neither was successful getting into the money, but it was great fun watching the gals compete.

Next on tap was a 4-wheeler ride up in the mountains. With two rigs loaded up, Lil Annee, Robert , & I headed down to Ouray, where we unloade and headed up into Yankee Boy Basin for a tour of beautiful high country.

As we got higher up we ran into waterfalls and fields of wildflowers in full bloom. Ann couldnt resist posing amidst all the color.

Resting by the Crik

We spent all day running over the high valleys, stopped for a leisurely lunch, and just enjoyed the day up in the mountains. By midafternoon we headed back to the truck and loaded up for home.

All too soon, Roberts short visit had come to an end and he had to catch the big bird back to Richmond. It had been fun having him after way too long.
