June 2011Spring gobbler season up here in our high mountains came in while we were off huntin’, fishin’, and foolin’ around for two months down in San Carlos, Sonora. By the time we got home the first week of May there weren’t many days left for me to try a hunt after catching up on two months accumulated mail. I never got a decent day, but my huntin’ buddies sure did.
Up on the Uncompaghre plateau, snowpack and windy conditions had been a problem all season. In spite of that, quite a few hunters had success on those few occasions when they happened to be in the right place at the right time. Goose hunting buddy Ryan Blackwelder put pregnant wife Erin on two great gobbles.
Ryan’s dad, Gerald even got in on a hunt or two, along with duck hunting buddy Jason.
Here in mid June there is still a good snowpack on the mountains and snowmelt is staining all the rivers, making fishing dicey at best. Pretty quick I’ll be joining fren Jim Plumhoff for some high mountain lake fishing, but that will be for another H,F,& F report. |
